Tanker truck fire causes traffic chaos on Highway 1 near Stoney Trail west

A tanker truck fire in Calgary’s west end caused traffic chaos for evening commuters on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of Highway 1 between Old Banff Coach Road and Stoney Trail west around 5:50 p.m. for reports of a tanker truck on fire.

The Calgary Fire Department responded with multiple units and brought the fire under control by 6:22 p.m. Crews remain on scene checking for hot spots.

Images from the scene shows major damage to the cab of the truck.

There is no word on any injuries.

The fire briefly closed all westbound lanes of Highway 1 at Stoney Trail, but lanes started to reopen before 6:30 p.m.
