Several homes have been evacuated in a southwest Calgary neighbourhood after dynamite was discovered on Saturday.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Woodview Crescent SW in the community of Woodlands around 12:10 p.m. for reports of a potential explosive device.
A metal box with suspect explosives was found while someone was cleaning the home, according to Calgary Police Service.
The device was eventually identified as dynamite.
Police have evacuated surrounding homes and Woodview Crescent SW has been closed to traffic.
The road is expected to remain closed until 7 p.m., police say.
Another device discovered at Weaselhead Park
About 40 minutes earlier, officers were called to Weaselhead Park around 11:30 a.m. for reports of another possible explosive device.
CPS says a possible World War II explosive device was found by someone using a metal detector.
The area was taped off until the Bomb Unit were able to “safely contain the device.”
Police eventually identified the item as “inert and just a casing.”
The area is no longer closed off.
There is no indication the two incidents are connected.
