Thousands of people will descend on Calgary’s BMO Centre beginning Tuesday for the 2025 Global Energy Show Canada.
The event runs until Thursday and has the potential to be the most important of its kind amidst global geopolitical uncertainty and debate around domestic energy strategy.
Earlier this month, newly-minted Prime Minister Mark Carney met with more than two-dozen oil and gas executives in Calgary to hear what they had to say about his proposals for the country’s energy sector.
Carney has said on multiple occasions he wants the sector to succeed, and campaigned on expediting reviews of major energy projects.
“It’s a critical time for our country. The world’s certainly more divided and dangerous, and the imperative of making Canada an energy superpower in all respects has never been greater,” the prime minister said on June 1. “We will do everything we can at the federal government level to support those partnerships.”
That will likely be one of many topics of discussion among the 30,000 delegates from more than 100 countries in Calgary this week.
“We’re expecting to host what is likely the highest levels of speakers in the show’s history, with CEO and ministerial speakers from around the world,” said Nick Samain, Senior Vice President North America at dmg events. “With energy issues dominating both the recent Canadian federal election and changing international energy issues, plus the timing of the event right before the G7 Summit, the show and the city are ideally positioned to contend with crucial issues around energy security, affordability, access and investment in new projects.
“The event is an integral platform to showcase the tremendous potential we have to define the future of Canada’s energy future.”
Longtime broadcaster Peter Mansbridge will host the executive conference program which will feature OPEC secretary-general Haitham al-Ghais, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, Minister of Energy and Minerals Brian Jean, Cenovus CEO Jon McKenzie, Trans Mountain CEO Mark Maki, Shell Canada Country Chair, Stastia West, Bouchier CEO Nicole Bourque-Bouchier, and many more.
The show rebranded from the Global Petroleum Show in 2020, in an effort to highlight the number of non-oil-and-gas participants in the energy sector, such as nuclear and renewables firms.
