Unlicensed teen motorcyclist seriously injured in Deerfoot crash: CPS

A teen motorcyclist who was seriously hurt in a multi-vehicle crash on Deerfoot Trail over the weekend was likely speeding and riding without a proper license, police say.

Emergency crews were called to the southbound lanes of Deerfoot near 32 Avenue NE around 5:45 p.m. for reports of a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.

Police say an 18-year-old man was operating a 2015 YZF-R1 Yamaha and travelling southbound at a high speed approaching 32 Avenue NE when he lost control and struck a white 2018 Nissan Altima, and then a white 2015 Audi A4.

The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike after crashing into the two vehicles. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Altima, a woman in her 30s, and the driver of the Audi, a 19-year-old woman, were not injured.

The speed of the motorcyclist is being investigated as a cause of the crash. Police also believe the rider did not have a Class 6 licence required to operate a motorcycle in Alberta.
