What’s open and closed in Calgary on Labour Day

With the days getting shorter and kids ready to return to the classroom, it means the Labour Day long weekend is upon us.
For those looking to get out and take advantage of the final long weekend of summer, keep in mind some businesses will be closed or operating at reduced hours.
Here’s what’s open and closed in Calgary on Labour Day:
ATTRACTIONS
- Calgary Zoo/Wilder Institute will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (last entry at 5 p.m.)
- Heritage Park will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- TELUS Spark will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)
BANKS
Banks will be closed on Monday
CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY
Calgary Public Library locations will be closed on Monday
CANADA POST
Canada Post locations will be closed on Monday, no mail will be delivered
GROCERY AND LIQUOR
Most grocery stores and liquor stores will be open through the weekend, some may have reduced hours. Check your local store for more details.
Costco locations will be closed on Monday, and no deliveries will be made.
LEISURE/RECREATION CENTRES
All city arenas, indoor pools, and fitness centres, will be closed on Monday.
Registered programs and swimming lessons will not run through the weekend. More information can be found here.
PARKING
People can park for free in on-street ParkPlus zones on Monday. Weekend rates will apply at Calgary Park Authority parkades and surface lots.
ROAD CLOSURES
Calgary Pride Parade Road closures: On Sunday, Aug. 31 until 3 p.m., 9 Avenue will be closed from 8 Street S.E. in Inglewood to 11 Street S.W. in the Downtown West End. Closures will begin at:
- 6 a.m. – 3 p.m.: 9 Avenue closed from 8 Street S.E. to 3 Street S.W. (includes multiple streets in East Village)
- 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.: 9 Avenue closed from 3 Street S.W. to 11 Street S.W.
SHOPPING MALLS
- CF Chinook Centre – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- CF Market Mall – open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- CORE Shopping Centre – open 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
- CrossIron Mills – open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Marlborough Mall – open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Southcentre – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunridge Mall – open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
TRANSIT
Calgary Transit buses and CTrains will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labour Day.
CTrain closures on the Labour Day weekend:
- The Red Line will be closed between Heritage and Victoria Park/Stampede stations starting Friday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m., until 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1.
- The Blue Line will be closed between Rundle and Franklin stations starting Friday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m., until 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 1.
Shuttle buses will run in place of trains for both closures. More details can be found here.
