Five residents self-evacuate house fire in SE Calgary

Five people living in a southeast Calgary home were able to get out safely after their house caught fire Monday evening.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) was called to New Brighton Lane SE around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Crews were already on scene fighting a massive fire in Taradale.

When they arrived to the southeast, firefighters found a two-story single family home with heavy smoke and flames pushing from a second floor window.

Crews started by fighting the flames from the outside and eventually moved inside.

CFD says damage was concentrated to the second floor and no other homes were damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
