Police are seeking help identifying two suspects believed to be responsible for the theft of a Calgary Paralympian’s custom-built handbike.
The theft occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 8, when two male suspects broke into an underground parking garage in the area of 16 Avenue and 14 Street SW.
Police believe the suspects entered a parked vehicle and stole the high-performance bike, which is used for para-cycling competitions and valued at $35,000.
Kara Douville, who recently returned from competing at the 2025 UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Belgium, discovered the theft on Monday morning as she was heading to work.
Later that morning, around 11:30 a.m., a witness reported seeing the suspects pushing the bike. Surveillance footage captured one of them travelling with it through the 500 block of 7 Avenue SW.
Police have released descriptions of the suspects:
- Suspect 1: Approximately 30 years old, 5’8” to 6’ tall, slim build. Last seen wearing a light-coloured hooded jacket, blue jeans, a baseball cap, white Adidas-style shoes, and carrying a light-coloured backpack.
- Suspect 2: Also around 30 years old, 5’8” to 6’ tall, slim build. Last seen wearing a black jacket with grey sleeves, black pants, black and white runners, and a black hat.
The stolen bike is a Model R2020 black carbon handbike, custom-built for Douville and easily identifiable.
