Tire tracks lead police to alleged impaired driver who caused chaos on Calgary roads

Calgary police have charged a man in his 20s following a hit-and-run last week that seriously injured one person.

Investigators say it happened at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24 on Blackfoot Trail SE near 34 Avenue SE.

Officers were called to the area for reports of a crash involving three vehicles, including a rollover.

One driver was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

Witnesses told police the driver of a black Dodge Ram hit two vehicles at a high rate of speed, before leaving the scene by driving the truck up an embankment and through a chain-link fence onto a restricted city property near Highfield Road SE.

Police tracked the tire tracks from the collision and found the truck, which was heavily damaged, and its driver and passenger. Both people were arrested.

Officers found open alcohol in the vehicle and observed behaviour consistent with drug impairment.

An investigation into the incident has also led police to believe the driver of the Dodge was responsible for hitting a number of parked cars on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Impaired driving charges haven’t been laid yet, pending the results of toxicology, police say.

Jarreth Tyler Fisher, 22, determined to be the driver of the truck, has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, and failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm.

His next scheduled court date is Jan. 30.

Fisher’s passenger was released without charge.
