The lawyer for a Calgary man arrested in connection with alleged Canadian drug kingpin Ryan Wedding says his client is not a flight risk or a public danger and should get bail.

Allistair Chapman, 33, faces extradition to California on charges that include conspiracy to distribute cocaine and commit murder.

Lawyer Noel O’Brien is asking a judge to release Chapman on a half-million-dollar surety guaranteed by Chapman’s parents.

He says the 33-year-old would stay with his parents and abide by a curfew. He says Chapman won’t flee because he does not have access to much money and has nowhere to go.

Chapman and nine others were arrested last year in an FBI investigation into an international drug trafficking organization allegedly run by Wedding.

Wedding is a former Team Canada Olympic snowboarder.
