A high school in a town south of Calgary was placed in a hold-and-secure status Thursday morning following a threat involving firearms.

RCMP say High River RCMP were called just before 10:40 a.m. by officials from École Secondaire Highwood High.

Callers reported an unknown person would be coming to the school with guns.

Police were at the school within two minutes of receiving the call, they say.

The school was placed in a hold and secure and searched by RCMP and school staff. It has since been lifted.

RCMP are expected to stay on site for the remainder of the day.

High River RCMP says it is committed to ensuring the public safety of our community to respond promptly to any concerns that are brought forward.

This report comes on the official Day of Mourning in British Columbia after an attack in Tumbler Ridge that claimed the lives of eight victims and the suspected shooter. It is one of the worst mass shootings in the country’s history.
