18-year-old charged with drug trafficking in Calgary’s East Village

A Calgary man has been charged after police say he was dealing drugs near the Drop-In Centre in Calgary’s East Village earlier this week.

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, shortly after noon, someone called police to report that they had seen a man engaging in behaviour consistent with drug trafficking on Dermot Baldwin Way SE.

Officers responded to the area and arrested 18-year-old Pride Kevin English-Bullcalf.

When he was searched, police found a variety of weapons, drugs, and related paraphernalia in a duffel bag he was carrying.

Among the items seized were 126.3 grams of fentanyl, with an estimated street value of $12,630; 21.4 grams of methamphetamine with estimated street value of $428; 147.7 grams of other drugs with estimated street value of $13,058; multiple knives; a hatchet; brass knuckles; bear spray; a collapsible baton; a Browning Bar II rifle; a live seven-millimetre round; a scale; $179 cash; and two cellphones.

“The Calgary Police Service works closely with community partners to ensure everyone has access to safe public spaces, and we will swiftly address dangerous predatory criminal activity that threatens community safety,” said District 1 Insp. Jason Bobrowich. “Partnerships help us identify and address safety concerns in real time and keep the community safe. Thank you to everyone who helped remove these weapons and drugs from our streets and ensure the suspect was held accountable.”

English-Bullcalf is facing a long list of charges, including possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of other drugs for the purpose of trafficking, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
