Man calls 911 over drive-thru burger dispute, ends up with licence suspended

An Alberta man had his licence suspended after an early‑morning encounter at a Red Deer fast-food restaurant.

RCMP say they received a 911 call around 4 a.m. on Sunday from a man at a drive-thru claiming restaurant staff were asking him to leave even though he believed he’d done nothing wrong.

He told officers he had driven 35 minutes for a burger and didn’t like how the employees spoke to him.

When officers arrived they found the man and his vehicle outside.

Police say he admitted he was drunk but had waited for officers because he still wanted to get food. Staff told RCMP their systems were down and they couldn’t serve him.

Officers determined the man had driven to the restaurant while impaired and demanded a breath sample, which the man allegedly refused. He was issued an immediate roadside sanction and his vehicle was seized.

RCMP are using the incident as a reminder for drivers to plan ahead and arrange a safe ride if they’ve been drinking or using other substances.
