What’s open and closed in Calgary on the May long weekend

It’s the unofficial start of summer.
The May long weekend is here, and despite the expectation of some winter-like weather, Monday (Victoria Day) is a holiday for most — here’s what’s open and closed on the long weekend:
Transit
On Monday, buses, CTrains, and On Demand service run on a Sunday schedule.
CTrain closure (May 16–19)
All Downtown stations will be closed, plus:
- Blue Line: Westbrook, Shaganappi, Sunalta, Bridgeland/Memorial
- Red Line: Sunnyside, 39 Avenue
Shuttle buses will run along 6 Ave S and 9 Ave S. A separate Blue Line shuttle will run between Downtown West/Kerby and Sunalta. Stampeders game shuttles available Monday from Chinook and Bridgeland/Memorial.
City golf courses
City driving ranges and all seven municipal golf courses (across five locations) are open throughout the long weekend. Tee times can be booked online.
Free ice skating
Monday — 1:00 to 2:15 p.m. – Stew Hendry/Henry Viney Arena (814 13 Ave NE)
Pools, fitness centres & arenas
All indoor pools, fitness centres, arenas, and the Maxwell Soccer Centre operate regular hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Free swimming
Two time slots on Monday:
- 1:00–2:30 p.m.
- 3:00–4:30 p.m.

Parking

- Weekend rates apply at City parkades and surface lots
- Regular rates remain at partner lots (Stampede, TELUS Spark, Zoo, Heritage Park)
Street sweeping
No sweeping on Monday. Regular sweeping resumes Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. (weather permitting).
