Pause for pets: Pyrenees with big personality awaits new Calgary home

A large one-year-old dog with a big personality is biding his time at the City of Calgary’s animal shelter, hoping someone opts to take him home.

Valor came in as a stray in late May and has quickly proven he is sociable and sweet.

“He’s super friendly,” says Janette Meyer, animal behaviour coordinator. “He has a great big heart.”

The one-year-old great Pyrenees mix is also just a big dog.

Meyer, who stands nearly six feet, said when Valor has jumped up to greet her, they’re nearly face-to-face.

She says Valor’s exuberance, combined with a love of treats, makes him easy to train. He is mastering his recall, is good on loose leash walks, sits and does play bows.

She adds that Valor is looking for a home with someone who is familiar with his breed, willing to work on developing his skills and manners (treats are mandatory) and keeping up with grooming his long locks.

For more information or to meet Valor, call 311 or head to the city’s website.
