There is a rapidly growing reward for information after an Alberta wild horse was found shot in central Alberta.
The Help Alberta Wildies Society (HAWS) says Grey Hawk, a wild horse known to advocates, was seen alive and in good condition west of the hamlet of Caroline on Wednesday before being discovered dead by campers about an hour later.
HAWS reported the death to Fish and Wildlife and the RCMP and planned to recover the carcass to determine what happened. When volunteers reached the site on Thursday, they learned that Grey Hawk had been shot.
The group moved Grey Hawk’s remains to a location out of public view and said he would feed local wildlife.
HAWS filed reports with the Sundre RCMP and announced an initial $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
On Friday, a supporter matched the offer, raising the total to $20,000. By the weekend, additional pledges of $10,000 and $5,000 pushed the reward to $35,000.
HAWS says the money is intended to help identify whoever killed the stallion. Tips that help lead to an arrest may qualify for the reward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sundre RCMP and reference file number 2026935914.
