Northern Alberta teen allegedly threatens to shoot students on first day of school

Police in northern Alberta say a 16-year-old is facing possible charges after allegedly threatening to shoot students on the first day of school.
Mounties say the student in Manning, Alta., — a town about 590 kilometres northwest of Edmonton – will be charged with uttering threats pending approval by the Crown.
Authorities say they were notified last Wednesday about the alleged threats. RCMP say they immediately alerted school officials and the Peace River School Division “in order to assist us in the investigation as well as review security measures.”
On Tuesday, Mounties searched a home in Manning and seized seven firearms.
“We want the public to know that we take every threat to our children’s safety seriously” Sgt. Gavin Ool, detachment commander of the Manning RCMP, said in a news release.
“We encourage members of the public to always report any threats to our children and allow us to fully investigate and prevent these disasters from happening.”
