BBB warns of one ring phone scam

The Better Business Bureau wants you to check your curiosity before becoming victim of the “one ring phone scam.”
Your phone will typically ring once, and when you answer it, the caller will hang up leaving a number on your screen that you don’t recognize.
Those who decide to call it back are then billed at least $19.95, depending on how long you stay on the line, because you’re being forwarded to another country.
The BBB’s Leah Brownridge says some people are more vulnerable than others.
“Right now the young adults, they are most likely to return a call from an unknown number,” she said.
Reported area codes of the scam include The Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica and Grenada.
There have been multiple reports in the U.S., and she feels it could be just a matter of time before they target Canadians.
