Water main break partially floods Northland Village Mall parking lot

Those shopping at Northland Village Mall may have a tough time finding a parking spot.

A water main break Wednesday morning flooded a large section of its parking lot, but thanks to quick action, damage to stores is believed to be minimal.

It could’ve been a lot worse as the parking lot filled with water and headed for the mall, with sandbags put down.

West District Fire Chief Dennis Graham explains they were able to get the water valve turned off quickly.

“Now it’s just removing some of the water and making sure that there’s no hazard with the drilling truck, that’s a little bit awkward where it’s at right now, once we get done, then we’ll be turning it over to the mall operators,” he said.

As for the cause, crews drilling core samples hit the pipe around 7 a.m.

The mall is open although there could be some ongoing water pressure problems.
