July 12th hail storm worst on record

The Insurance Bureau of Canada now confirms the hail storm that slammed southern Alberta on July 12th is the worst on record.

Officials say it caused more damage than any other storm in Canadian history.

The Bureau estimates the hail and flooding from caused nearly 400-million dollars in damage to homes, cars and businesses.

Doug Nobel with the Bureau says he is surprised by the final tally.

“The estimates for this storm clearly came in higher than what some in the industry might have expected, probably in some cases a lot higher.”

The storm saw golf ball-sized hail hit our city, breaking windows and denting cars.   It also caused flooding through many parts of the north.

The previous record was also set in Calgary back in 1991, when a hailstorm caused close to $350-million in damage.
