McMahon Stadium set to celebrate the big 5-0

It’s been home to four Grey Cups, a visit by the queen and the ’88 Winter Olympics.

This Sunday McMahon Stadium will celebrate 50 years when the Stampeders host the Eskimos.

George McMahon was one of the stadium’s builders. His son, John, tells 660News remembers the day it opened even though he was just six years old.

His father, along with his uncle Frank McMahon, put up one million dollars to have the stadium built in just 103 days.

John will be taking part in a half-time celebration on Sunday.
