Calgary Fire Department reminds you to stay safe setting up for the holidays

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Have you finished decorating for the holidays? If not, you should be careful of fire hazards that can come with decorating for Christmas.

Carole Henke with the Calgary Fire Department said when it comes to lights or other decorations that use electricity, you can use power bars, but follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

“A power bar can be a surge protector, so in case there’s an increase in power it will turn off. If your cord feels warm to the touch, that’s not good, and you never wanna run cords under anything that will collect the heat like area rugs or carpet,” said Henke.

Henke adds it’s also not a good idea to have things permanently plugged into an extension cord.
