Calgary embraces replacement Stampede food truck event

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – While the Calgary Stampede was cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that didn’t stop Calgarians from lining up this weekend for the replacement event.

It was wall-to-wall cars on the Stampede grounds this weekend for the YYC food truck rally, which runs until July 12.

Typical Stampede fare is available, including the famous mini donuts, for the entire 10 days of what would have been the Calgary Stampede.

The cancellation of the Stampede was a major blow to Calgary’s economy – an economy already struggling because of the pandemic and low energy prices.

But it was all smiles this weekend as the food truck drive-thrus helped to keep the Stampede spirit alive.

Typically, the Calgary Stampede draws more than one million visitors to the city each year.
