Edmonton police have charged a 30-year-old woman in connection with the death of a five-month-old in March.
Investigators say on March 7, a baby was admitted to Stollery Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The EPS Child Protection Section initiated an investigation the following day.
Police say the infant was declared dead on March 11.
The following week, the Edmonton Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma, ruling the death as a homicide.
According to EPS, on Apr. 13, the woman, who was confirmed to be the baby’s mother, was charged with second-degree murder.
Police say the name of the infant and the mother will not be released to protect the identity of another child in the family.
