Calgary police trying to reunite stolen items with owners after suspicious vehicle probe

Calgary police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the rightful owners of a variety of stolen items recovered during a recent investigation into a suspicious vehicle.

On the morning of Sept. 30, officers responded to a report from a business located along 126 Avenue SE regarding a mini school bus that had been parked in their lot for several days.

Upon arrival, police discovered two people inside the bus, both of whom had outstanding warrants. One of them was also found to be in breach of their release conditions. Both were taken into custody.

A search of the vehicle revealed a small quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of property believed to be stolen but not yet reported. Among the recovered items were:

  • Power tools, some marked with the initials K.A. and A.L.
  • A drone
  • A radio
  • A vehicle code reader
  • An assortment of utensils

Following the investigation, 31-year-old Mathew Joshua Fontaine was charged with obstructing a peace officer, possession of methamphetamine, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. Fontaine remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

Police have released photos of the seized items in hopes that members of the public may recognize them and assist in returning the property to its owners.

Anyone with information about the theft or who believes they may own any of the items is encouraged to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
