A home in Chestermere has been deemed unfit for human habitation after a drug bust Thursday afternoon.
RCMP say it was a tip from the public that led them to the house in the 100 block of Lavender Link.
Inside the basement were 75 marijuana plants at various stages of growth with a street value of approximately $96,000.
Corporal Shane Fletcher says significant modifications were made to the home to help facilitate the grow-op.
“There was venting to the outside with filters, there was electrical bypasses, extensive lighting and certain rooms contained in plastic to prevent light and odours from escaping,” he tells 660News.
Fletcher says this will put a significant dent in the town’s drug trade.
“In recent years, probably the last five or so, we’ve really focused on the grow-ops,” he says. “It’s been listed as a priority for us and we’ve been filtering out the numbers.”
A man and woman have been arrested.
Police are still trying to determine their connection but Mounties say they will more than likely face charges of production for the purpose of trafficking.
If anyone has any information about a marijuana grow-op in their Chestermere neighbourhood, they’re being urged to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
