The father of Calgarian Ryan Jenkins is defending his son, nearly a year after he was the subject of an international manhunt.
Jenkins was wanted for murder after the body of his swimsuit model wife, Jasmine Fiore, was found in a dumpster in Buena Park, California after it was mutilated and stuffed in a suitcase.
When Ryan was named as a suspect he took off, eluding police and making his way up to Canada. The search came to an end when Jenkins was found in a hotel room after hanging himself.
While investigators think Ryan was responsible for Jasmine’s death, Dan Jenkins doesn’t believe his son was a murderer.
The local architect says he misses Ryan every day, calling him a fine young man.
Authorities believe Jenkins killed himself out of guilt, even though his suicide note didn’t mention anything about murder. It only talked about the fact Jasmine was cheating on him.
Dan tells the Calgary Sun his son was a victim in this case because he hung himself as a frightened fugitive who felt he had no other options.
His father says we may never know what exactly happened, but no one can prove that Ryan is guilty in Jasmine’s death, although he does admit he can’t prove Ryan’s innocence either.
Police in Buena Park aren’t shocked that Dan is denying his son may have been a murderer. They say parents love their kids and never believe they could be involved in a case like this.
