Mayoral races in area communities

Calgary is not the only area community that will be choosing a new mayor October 18.

After four terms, Okotoks mayor Bill McAlpine is not running again.

Two councilors, Beth Kish and Bill Robertson are hoping to replace McAlpine, and their campaigns have been drawn along the contentious line of lifting the cap on growth in Okotoks.  Kish is in favour of allowing more growth; Robertson wants to hold the line.

Elsewhere, four mayoral candidates have filed papers in Airdrie, two in Cochrane and six people want to head up town council in Strathmore.

Here’s the list of mayoral candidates:

Airdrie:
Linda Bruce
Peter Brown
Ross Mann
Edward Skelding

Okotoks:
Beth Kish
Bill Robertson

Strathmore:
Kevin Baldwin
Michael Ell
Glenn Freeland
Steve Grajczyk
George Lattery
Brad Wall

Cochrane:
Truper McBride
Mike Anderson
