Calgary’s economic future is bright: report

We won’t have to wait too long before Calgary’s economy is back on the right track.

That’s according to a new economic outlook from the Conference Board of Canada.

In 2010, Calgary is expected to have growth of just 3.5 per cent, which is eighth place amongst Canadian municipalities.

However, the report also says our fortunes should begin to turn around starting next year.

According to the Board, the future forecast is rosy, to say the least.

With expected growth of 4.2 per cent per year between 2011 and 2014, it’s predicted Calgary will lead the nation.

Greg Sutherland with the Conference Board of Canada tells 660News much of this will be thanks to consumers.

One of the main boomers will be the oil and gas sector.

Sutherland says the industry will be funneling money through Calgary as the economy in the U-S picks up and energy demand worldwide begins to rise.
