High winds create dangerous road conditions down south

Calgarians may be enjoying a chinook right now but old man winter is still causing problems south of the city.
Blowing snow is causing whiteout conditions in many areas, with Okotoks, High River and Nanton seeing some of the worst.
660 Meteorologist David Spence says the blowing snow varies across the southern region, with visibility down to only about a kilometre or less in some areas.
RCMP are not recommending travel in most parts of the south unless absolutely necessary and are advising motorists to take extreme precaution if out on the highways.
Sargeant Patrick Webb tells 660News, the biggest problem is the wind blowing the snow all over the place, and with the slippery conditions as well, people not only are having a hard time staying on the road, at times they can’t even find it.
The wind warning has ended for the SW parts of the province but most of the roads are still in poor driving condition.
Many highways in the south have seen winds gusts exceeding 100km/hr.
Winds have also been gusting in Calgary but according to city police there have been no reports of any damages or collisions as a result.
Wintery conditions have also been reported on the QE II north of the city.
