Video game launched as recruiting tool

The University of Calgary is hoping you can heal the zombies and save the humans.
It’s the premise of a new video game created by the nursing program as a recruitment tool.
“We hope it will go viral and nurses will send it to their friends,” the nursing program’s Jenny Conway-Fraser tells 660News, adding she hopes the game will de-bunk some of the stereotypes about nursing. “It’s the sort of game where you can play for two minutes or 10 minutes or 30 minutes and keep coming back to it.”
Specifically, Conway-Fraser says they hope to put an end to negative myths about the nursing profession with the super-hero wearing scrubs and white shoes.
“We sort of talked about ways of approaching that,” she adds. “Then we kept coming back to nurses fighting monsters because it’s really easy to characterize illness or hurt as a monster. It sort of became apparent that it would really be kind of fun to play with the zombie mythology.”
“It’s a complicated profession in that nurses do all kinds of different things,” Conway-Fraser continues. “There are lots of stereotypes that exist about nursing. So we wanted to create kind of pop-culture existence for nurses.”
Players are in a triage unit helping to heal zombies and turn them back into humans without being bitten.
Conway-Fraser says they’re hoping to add it soon to mobile and smart phones, but the first edition of the game should be on store shelves soon.
