A 30-year-old man is dead following a tragic snowboarding accident at the Castle Mountain Resort about 221 kilometres south of Calgary.
The accident happened around 3 p.m. Saturday when the man was heading down a run called Buffalo Flats at a relatively high speed.
Andrew Rusynyk with the resort said the man slid off the run, hitting a stump.
“The person was non-responsive when they got there, he had gone off the run at a fairly high speed, and impacted with a stump and as a result, there was a fatality,” he said.
Rusynyk said the man was wearing a helmet and chest protector and the run is considered novice to intermediate.
“The biggest message is to ski and ride with care,” he said. “There is some risk involved with the sport, so people need to make sure that they’re always trying to keep their speed and control so that if there’s any situation they can react to it and control themselves and stop safely.”
RCMP continue to investigate.
