A judge is asking a Calgary man spend at least 11 months in jail and be banned from driving for 10 years after he pleaded guilty to his ninth drunk driving offence.
Acting on a tip last month, Calgary police say they caught Kevin Brunton getting into his vehicle and putting it into reverse despite having his license suspended from a previous impaired driving conviction.
On Wednesday, a judge told the court Brunton has continued to drink and drive despite the penalties that have been handed out to him since his first conviction in 1984.
His lawyer argues he’s struggled with alcoholism and that the guilty plea is a sign of remorse.
The Calgary Sun reports Brunton will be sentenced Tuesday.
