Up to 200 volunteers are needed in High River every day as the community deals with the recovery phase following June’s flood.
Mission Possible 2 is organizing the help, and director Anil Karim tells 660News, although volunteers can help with physical labour they also provide important emotional help.
“The biggest part when a disaster hits to help with that stress and trauma is the interaction with people. Sometimes residents and even volunteers just need to tell their story, and when volunteers come out that’s what they do. (They ask) Oh my God, what have you been going through? What’s happening?’, and just by lending a hand, you’re also lending your ear,” he explains.
Volunteer tasks include working with residents in their homes, assisting at the donation center and preparing meals.
The Mission Possible 2 headquarters is located on rodeo grounds and operates seven days a week between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
