George Washington biographer receives $5,000 Colby prize

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The author of a George Washington biography has received a $5,000 prize.

Norwich University officials on Tuesday named Logan Beirne’s “Blood of Tyrants: George Washington & the Forging of the Presidency” winner of the William E. Colby award. The prize named for former CIA director William E. Colby is given for an outstanding debut work of fiction or nonfiction about the military, intelligence operations or international affairs. The Colby award was founded at Norwich, based in Northfield, Vt., in 1999.

Previous winners include Karl Marlantes, Dexter Filkins and James Bradley.
