A Dutch speed skater hopes to set a world record right here in Calgary.
Douwe de Vries will lace up at the Olympic Oval Friday and will attempt to break the record for the longest distance skated in just one hour.
That title has been held by Casper Helling of the Netherlands for eight years at 105 laps.
De Vries will try to best that effort from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Calgary facility, saying he’s excited for the opportunity and quitting is not an option.
