RCMP seize nearly $500K in drugs after Calgary, Canmore trafficking investigation

Cochrane RCMP have made multiple arrests connected to a drug trafficking network in the Bow Valley, seizing nearly $500 million worth of drugs along with a semi-automatic rifle. Joel Mendelson reports.

A months-long RCMP investigation that began with suspected drug runs between Calgary and Canmore has resulted in four arrests and nearly half a million dollars in drugs and weapons seized.

Cochrane RCMP began investigating a man suspected of trafficking drugs between Calgary and Canmore in March 2026.

Officers later confirmed he was transporting wholesale‑level drugs from Calgary into the Bow Valley.

On March 13, police stopped a vehicle linked to the suspect and seized 1,097 grams of fentanyl. The investigation continued on May 14, when officers executed a search warrant at a Canmore home, finding 1.6 kilograms of fentanyl and cocaine along with 2,000 counterfeit Xanax tablets.

Two Canmore residents, Mackenzie Harbar, 30, and Katie Ervin, 31, were charged. Harbar also faces breach of conditions charges.

Evidence from the Canmore search led officers to open a second investigation in Calgary. Police executed two search warrants in the city on May 27, seizing 0.5 kilograms of fentanyl and cocaine, more than 1,100 synthetic‑opioid tablets, and a prohibited firearm.

Two Calgary residents, Aaron Cahoon, 30, and Jordan Nyiro, 31, were charged with drug trafficking offences. Nyiro also faces firearms charges.

In total, police seized 1,186 grams of fentanyl, 915 grams of cocaine, 2,895 counterfeit opioid pills, 7 grams of methamphetamine, and a semi‑automatic rifle and prohibited magazines.

Police estimate the total street value at about $490,000.
