A second day of major oilpatch layoffs

Another major energy company with Canadian head offices in Calgary has announced layoffs in the midst of falling oil prices.

ConocoPhillips has confirmed to 660News they are reducing their Canadian workforce by about 7 per cent, or roughly 200 people.

The American company has offices in Calgary, but did not say how many of the job losses are in this city.

The announcement comes one day after Calgary based Talisman Energy announced it is reducing its workforce by 10 to 15 per cent, or up to 200 employee and contractor jobs.

The cuts come mostly at the company’s head office in downtown Calgary.

Nexen said it is also slashing 400 positions, including about 300 in Calgary.
