Local restaurant raising money for rebuild in Nepal

A local restaurant is reaching out to a country they have deep ties to: earthquake-devastated Nepal.

The Himalayan, located in southwest Calgary, employs four chefs from Nepal, including one who was there when the disaster hit.

They are now raising funds to help rural communities rebuild as soon as possible.

Jonesh Rajbhandari tells City News, they’ve been moved with how many customers have opened their wallets.

“Even people that haven’t come for dinner, they just come in, they’re our regular customers, or they’ve known us for quite a long time, they come in and they’re like, how can we help? How are we going to do this? They’ve told us they’ve donated money through Red Cross or such organizations, and they’re also willing to donate more, which is good. We’re really thankful for that,” Rajbhandari said.

The restaurant also plans on holding an upcoming fundraiser event.
