The Orange Crush continues in Calgary-Glenmore.
Elections Alberta released its recount results in the hotly contested riding following a tie on election night and NDP candidate Anam Kazim has won by just six votes over PC incumbent Linda Johnson.
Johnson must now decide if she wants to pursue a judicial review and Kazim is holding off on the celebration for now.
“It feels great to hear the results, but at the same time, it’s not sure if these results will be final ones,” Kazim said. “Even now the results are very close, but at least it’s not a tie anymore, so we’ll see how things go.”
Johnoson has eight days to decide on a review and will meet her advisers to discuss what to do next, but for now it stings.
“I’m disappointed with the official result, we were at a tie on election night and 10 days later we’re not,” Johnson said and she was asked if she’s leaning one way or the other on pursuing the review.
“With results this close, you have to consider all your options,” she said.
Johnson said in the meantime she’s writing thank you notes for her supporters and despite the loss, with 7,000 votes, the PC voice is still strong.
“The fun thing about democracy and I’ve said this in the many grade six classes I was in, everybody’s vote counts and we have that demonstrated again today,” she said.
Kazim totalled 7,018 votes to Johnson’s 7,012, giving the NDP 54 seats and the PCs nine.
