It’s a $90-million addition to Mount Royal University, offering a new home for the Conservatory and the Bella Concert Hall.
Contributions were made by the federal, provincial and municipal governments and boosted by philanthropists Don and Ruth Taylor, who donated $21-million to the project.
The ‘Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts‘ officially opens Wednesday, but has been in operation since early July.
The soft opening has given organizers the option to smooth out the off-beats and ‘treble’ spots.
The facility is one of Canada’s largest musical teaching institutions and Calgary’s first new major performance hall in thirty years.
“The Bella Concert Hall is a 770 seat concert hall,” Project Manager Kaye Harrison told 660 NEWS. “There are not many at all in the whole of Canada. Absolutely fantastic acoustics, but also intimate.”
Interim Conservatory Director, Elain Danelesko said, “We’ve had nothing but absolutely favourable response from all of the students and instructors who’ve come to visit the facility, thus far. They’re all excited.”
Harrison is impressed by the new state-of-the-art centre but admits the best part: “Is what you are giving back and what you are building for the community and the students.”
You can listen for the music or visit the concert hall and the 45 individual studios on the east side of the Mount Royal University campus.
