Two people in custody for questioning after Stephen Ave. gunfire

That’s how Calgary police are describing the city’s latest shooting on a busy Stephen Ave. Thursday night that sent a man and woman in their 20s to hospital in serious, but stable condition.
During a news conference Friday afternoon, Acting Insp. Rob Davidson with the Major Crimes Section said in light of recent gun violence in the city, several police units were deployed Thursday night to conduct suppression efforts and directed patrols.
“Discharging a firearm in a busy area like Stephen Ave., highly concerning for police,” said Davidson. “Calgarians expect to be able to walk down city streets and be safe, and that’s why we’re being so aggressive in those suppression techniques.”
During those patrols, officers located a blue Dodge Caliber at a gas station in the 2000 block of 16th Ave. NW. It fit the description of a suspect vehicle involved in possible abduction in the same area of Stephen Ave.
“Initial indication led police to believe the vehicle involved in the shooting downtown Thursday night may be linked to the possible abduction of a man in downtown Calgary on Wednesday, November 4. The connection to the two incidents is still under investigation,” said Davidson.
He added the man who may have been abducted has not yet been identified or located, and no one has been reported missing matching his description.
Based on evidence, the Stephen Ave. shooting was targetted. Davidson says it’s likely not connected to gangs but early indications lead police to believe it’s related to drugs.
