With the amount of dementia patients only expected to rise over the next few years, Health Link has launched a province-wide help line to provide support.
Director for Health Link, Lara Osterreicher, says anyone can call 8-1-1, 24/7 to access information from a health professional.
“The health link nurse will help assess your symptoms (and) anything that’s going on,” Osterreicher explained. “Provide support and some practical support for perhaps managing a person with dementia at home that’s struggling at that moment, and then make a referral to our specialized dementia advice nurses.”
By 2038, it is estimated around one in 10 Albertans will be living with dementia.
