Thunderstorms could bring hail as Calgary heat wave continues

Get ready for another round of knockout heat.
Six records were broken across the province Monday; Calgary hit 30.9 degrees breaking the old record of 30 while Claresholm was the hot spot at 32 degrees, breaking a record set in 1970.
It will be a similar story Tuesday, but it’s not just the heat residents need to watch out for.
Environment Canada meteorologist David Carlsen says there could be some pretty serious thunderstorms in the afternoon.
“We’re going to be looking at a bit of moisture streaming in from the east and with this hot weather and a jet stream overtop — put all those things together and that spells severe thunderstorms,” he said.
That could include golf ball sized hail and damaging winds.
“The biggest threat does extend from Sundre through Calgary down to about High River and east about 100 kilometres or so,” explained Carlsen.
If something does happen, it will likely be between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The silver lining is that cooler temperatures with a storm could see the heat warning dropped for Calgary which has been in place since Sunday night.
