Neighbours rattled after woman hit by SUV in NW

A 24-year-old woman has suffered life-threatening injuries, after being hit by a vehicle while walking her dog in the city’s northwest.
It happened at Sherwood Blvd near Sherwood Point.
Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is co-operating with police.
Re-construction teams are still determining if speed was a factor, but neighbours have been concerned about safety in the community for a very long time.
“We have to do something. This is for our children, and for our community and just everyone,” Melissa Morrisseau said.
There’s a park but no playground zone, and no marked crosswalks and she says cars often whiz by.
“Even my kids — we’re standing at the corner, trying to cross the road and they don’t stop, and because it’s a hill, you catch speed, right? Like, I’ve even caught myself a couple times,” Morrisseau said.
Another neighbour says she’s caught vehicles whizzing around school buses.
“For people trying to turn into their driveways, drivers are not stopping to allow that to happen. They keep their speed – as they’re speeding – and drive around into the parking lane,” she said.
Jamal Saheb also has an unsettling story.
“My son was hit by a stone, flying from one of the car tires, that’s how fast (the driver) was going,” he said.”We have made several calls to the city of Calgary. We even had a petition going in 2006. We sent it to City of Calgary, the city of Calgary told us send it to a developer, we did that. Nothing has happened.”
Morrisseau says it’s heartbreaking — she’s used to seeing the victim out with her dog every morning.
