The season of giving is more important than ever as Calgarians struggling with hard economic times.
660 NEWS’ sister station, KISS 95.9 launched its 22nd annual Toy Angels campaign Monday, supporting the Salvation Army and less fortunate families.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi dropped off the first two presents at the radio station: a big stuffed bear and plush puppy.
“A lot of our neighbours are feeling the pain of unemployment and the uncertainty of the future. For those of us who are able to give, it’s really incumbent on us to give a little bit more because there’s so many people out there who want to give, and just can’t this year,” he said.
Calgary police will be collecting unwrapped toys at local district offices until December 23.
“This year, more than probably most, Calgarians are going to need help,” Police Chief Roger Chaffin said. “When you see what goes on in homes, you see the struggles people have, and you see the opportunity to help people, that’s really what draws people into policing.”
In 2015, Toy Angels collected over 22,000 gifts for Calgary kids to open on Christmas morning.
