Man dies after Monday morning shooting in Chestermere

CHESTERMERE (660 NEWS) – A man has died after being shot inside a home in Chestermere.

It happened Monday morning around 10:30 in a house at West Lakeview Drive and West Creek Mews, first responders rushed him to an area hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

According to the RCMP, there was an altercation inside the house when a shot was fired and they don’t believe this to be a random event.

They’re stopping short of confirming whether they have a suspect or person of interest.

“Right now it’s an open and active investigation,” said Corporal Chris Warren. “Things are currently being investigated and we’re seeking any information from the public that they might have.”

Warren says schools in the area were briefly placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure to keep students and staff safe.

The victim has not been identified.

The Southern Alberta Major Crimes Unit, along with the Forensic Identification Service, Police Dog Service, and the Strathmore detachment have moved into Chestermere to assist in the investigation.

Police are hoping to provide an update later in the week.
