Trial for slain Stampeder Mylan Hicks continues

CALGARY – The trial of a man accused of fatally shooting a Stampeders player outside a Calgary bar has been told he was aggressive and acting like he was untouchable.
Bar patron Hilary Jeavons was testifying at the second-degree murder trial of Nelson Lugela in the 2016 death of Mylan Hicks.
Jeavons say Lugela bumped into her numerous times without apologizing and was one of the instigators in a fight with a group of Stampeders at the Marquee Beer Market.
She also says that when she heard gunshots before leaving to give Stampeders defensive back Joe Burnett a ride home, she told him she knew who fired the gun by his actions in the bar.
Another bar patron who witnessed the fatal shooting says he thought he heard a firecracker before turning to see a man brandishing a gun.
Carlos Tejada-Colindres was at the bar with friends and was talking with a woman outside after closing.
He testified that after hearing a bang he turned around to see Hicks running away and another man aiming a gun at him.
Tejada-Colindres says Hicks then stumbled and fell to the ground.
He says the shooter took off while he and other bystanders went to see if they could help the victim.
Hicks’s mother wept in court during the testimony.
