CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Sheldon Kennedy is stepping back from the groundbreaking organization he founded in Calgary.
The Child Advocacy Centre in his name is being handed back to the community.
In a release, Kennedy writes he makes the announcement with sadness, a great sense of relief and no regrets after giving his all.
“I need to refocus my efforts on my work at Respect Group, the company I co-founded, that educates those involved in sport, schools and the workplace on the prevention of bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination,” he stated.
“To those victims who still may not have come forward: you will always have a safe place to go and be heard at the Calgary Child Advocacy Centre,” he added.
Kennedy first approached police with the idea of a centre dedicated to helping children impacted by crime in 2010, and the doors opened in 2012.
