RCMP lay charges following violent police car ramming

WESTLOCK (660 NEWS) — Westlock RCMP have charged two people after ramming police cruisers early Friday morning.

According to the RCMP just after midnight officers determined that a truck in the McDonald’s drive-thru was stolen from Athabasca. When police tried to arrest the suspects, the driver began smashing into police cars in front and behind them.

Police say they seized drugs, a gun, ammunition and equipment for breaking in, inside the truck.

Hope Nixon, 24, from Spruce Grove is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, failure to comply with the condition of an undertaking/ recognizance. She is also facing three drug related charges for possession of methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine.

Damian Thomas, 24, from Whitecourt is charged with:

  • Assault on police officer with a weapon (x2)
  • Assault with a weapon (x2)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Mischief over $5,000 (x2)
  • Mischief under $5,000 (x2)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a break-in instrument
  • Resist/obstruct police officer (x2)
  • Fail to comply with condition of an undertaking/recognizance (x2)
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited
  • Possession of a weapon contrary to an order (x2)
  • 4 Possession charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

 

Nixon has been released on cash bail and Thomas remains in custody. Both will appear in Westlock court on June 26.
