CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The Calgary Flames players and coaching staff are breathing a sigh of relief after learning T.J. Brodie’s neurological tests came back negative.
The 29-year-old blueliner collapsed during practice at the Saddledome early Thursday afternoon, and although Brodie is resting, doing well at home, he’s definitely on the mind of his teammates.
“It was a tough day for all of us,” Travis Hamonic explained Friday. “You’re not expecting anything like that to happen. It’s not easy to see. [He’s] a really close friend and teammate. To see that happen, you start panicking.”
“It’s hard. It’s one of those things I’ve never seen in my career. It’s a scary, real-life moment. It’s one of those things that snaps you back in reality, and you forget hockey and everything else that’s around it at that moment.”

Captain Mark Giordano echoed those words, saying emotions are still raw a day after it happened.
“For me personally, seeing a teammate on the ice, I’ve never been a part of that. Knowing Brodes for so long, playing with him his whole career, being really good friends, it was an emotional day. We feel better about things today with some positive news.”
Brodie will still undergo further tests with Flames general manager Brad Treliving saying the team’s medical staff will leave “no stone unturned.”

The Flames are flying to Arizona Friday for a date versus the Coyotes Saturday afternoon and a meeting in Vegas against the Golden Knights on Sunday.
Head coach Bill Peters adds, hockey is just a game, and Brodie will remain on their minds as they hit the road.
“It puts everything in perspective, and I don’t think it’s going to disappear,” he said. “Everyone is different. I know how it affected me. It’s hard, really hard, to see somebody in that situation. Very hard.”
There is no timetable for Brodie’s return.
